Presenting Egyptian Vulture Arribas

The most recent addition to the Life Rupis 'family' now has a name: the juvenile Egyptian Vulture we equipped with a GPS tag this summer is called Arribas. To choose the name, we challenged the rangers at Douro Internacional Natural Park to make 2 suggestions, which we then put to a vote on Facebook. It was a close call: Arribas garnered 59% of the votes, narrowly beating the other suggestion (Nordeste).

Arribas was equipped with a GPS transmitter while still in the nest, in early August. At the end of the month it took a trip to Sagres, and on 3 September it made it across the strait of Gibraltar.

Since 11 September, Arribas has been in Mauritania, where it'll spend the winter. We hope it'll return to the Douro around March next year - and along the way it will help us learn more about its species!
